He has already won the battle. Because of this, we can have peace in the midst of the eruptions (8mm lava rock) of life.
This is a peace, like a fortress, that co-exists with tribulation and disturbance. The inner peace Jesus speaks of is not worldly comfort or happiness. It is a confident "rest" that believers gain when they set aside anxiety and stress and place full confidence in the victory of God.
