Jesus said "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible." Matthew 17:20 & Luke 17:6
Why did Jesus use the mustard seed example?
In several of his teachings, Jesus used the mustard seed to illustrate profound spiritual truths. In one instance, he likened the kingdom of heaven to a mustard seed, emphasizing its small beginning but remarkable growth into a large plant that provides shelter for birds. (Matthew 13:31-32.) This parable highlights how something seemingly insignificant can develop into something substantial and even influential. When likened to our faith, we could even be a support system to others, full of life and power with even just a small amount of faith!
Move mountains? Seriously?
In another context, Jesus spoke about faith, saying that even faith as small as a mustard seed has the power to move mountains (Matthew 17:20), emphasizing that it's not the size of faith that matters, but its sincerity and reliance on God. Through these references, the mustard seed serves as a powerful symbol of both the potential for significant growth from humble origins and the immense power that can be unleashed through even a tiny amount of genuine faith. You might be thinking 'Seriously?! ... you don't know the mountains in my life!'. Bible scholars say that a mountain can be a symbol of a kingdom. Mountain-moving faith brings the power of God's kingdom to the earth. (TPT). 1Corinthians 13:2 says "... if I had the greatest gift of faith that could move mountains, but have never learned to love, then I am nothing." This is referring to the kind of faith that keeps on moving mountains or that removes one mountain after another. That sure sounds like life, doesn't it?
The power of God IN YOU
So if a mustard seed is an example of the power of God packed into a tiny, seemingly insignificant space, then what power we must have as vessels of the holy spirit, houses of God. 1Corinthians 3:16 says "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.". This verse emphasizes that believers are not merely a location, but a living, sacred dwelling place for God's Spirit. These verses are making me want to do a re-read 1Corinthians! And, is anyone else from my generation humming "I've got the power", by Snap? ha! My twenty-year old self's favorite song.
"I feel like the Lord wants me to tell you something."
I began designing with mustard seeds in 2016 and spent months putting mustard seeds in different jewelry designs without the desired effect I was looking for. It's not that easy to bling out a mustard seed! But one Friday, I received my package from Israel with special crown bezels that I had ordered and I sat down to get creative. I played around with some opal flakes and the result was really pretty! I sat looking at it amongst the mess of weeks of creative-attempts and then went off to a Friday night church service. I sat next to a woman I had never met and she leaned over and said:
"Hi, I feel like the Lord wanted me to tell you something but I don't know if it will mean anything to you." I encouraged her to share. She said simply "He wants you to know that he loves the new thing you're doing? Does that make sense?"
I was in tears! God loves my work! He loves my new design! We co-created!
Co-creating with God
There is no greater honor than to co-create with the creator Himself. I often ponder how His creativity is in us, the author and originator of all creation. Creating beautiful things from His word to encourage and strengthen others, and to remind them of His great love is a thrill! Our Mustard Seed Collection was designed as daily reminders that God-sized action comes from even just a little bit of faith. Reminders that the kingdom of heaven is within you! As a child of God, you wear a crown, you are powerful!
Made in Israel, these intricately designed bezel crowns feature leaves and flowers as a reminder of Jesus' teaching that "the smallest of seeds grows into the largest of garden plants that even birds come perch on its branches." We order these from Israel and then carefully hand-set a mustard seed inside each setting with shimmering opal flakes to create a very unique and meaningful crown setting unlike any other!
I'm lifting you up in prayer today, hoping that God whispers His loving affirmations into your heart. Remember, you are truly cherished, wholly loved and never ever forsaken!
xo, Kara
